The Alien Index Take
Victor Wembanyama looked completely out of sorts in this November collapse against Phoenix, posting one of his most forgettable stat lines of the season. Nine points on 4-14 shooting? That’s not the alien we’ve come to expect. The Frenchman seemed to be forcing shots all game long, settling for contested threes when he should have been hunting easier looks closer to the rim. His 1-5 from deep was particularly ugly – these weren’t good looks, just desperation heaves that clanged off iron with authority.
The defensive numbers tell a different story, as usual. Four blocks kept him from being a complete liability, and you could see flashes of his rim protection deterring Phoenix drives in the paint. But when your franchise cornerstone puts up single digits in a 12-point loss, the blocks feel like consolation prizes. His rebounding was solid at nine boards, though nothing spectacular for someone his size against a Suns team that’s not exactly loaded with interior presence.
This type of off-night is exactly why Wemby’s rookie cards remain volatile – the ceiling is stratospheric, but these clunkers remind everyone he’s still developing his consistency. Collectors who panic-sold after this stinker missed the point entirely.
